Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using Roulety, the free online spinner wheel.
Is Roulety completely free to use?
Yes, Roulety is 100% free. There are no premium plans, hidden fees, or feature locks. All functionality is available to everyone without creating an account.
Do I need to create an account or sign up?
No. Roulety works instantly in your browser with no registration required. Your wheel entries and settings are stored locally on your device using your browser's local storage.
Is the spinner wheel truly random?
Yes. Roulety uses the Web Crypto API (window.crypto.getRandomValues), which provides cryptographically secure random numbers. This is the same technology used in security and encryption applications, making the results genuinely unpredictable and fair.
How many entries can I add to the wheel?
There is no strict limit on the number of entries. However, for the best visual experience, we recommend between 2 and 20 entries. With more entries, the text on each segment becomes smaller and harder to read.
Can I weight certain options to appear more often?
Currently, all entries have equal probability of being selected. If you want to increase the chance of a particular option, you can add it multiple times to the wheel. For example, adding "Pizza" three times and "Sushi" once gives Pizza a 75% chance of winning.
Does Roulety work on mobile devices?
Yes. Roulety is fully responsive and works on smartphones, tablets, and desktops. The layout automatically adjusts to fit your screen size, and you can spin the wheel by tapping on it.
Where is my data stored?
All your data — wheel entries, settings, and spin history — is stored locally in your browser using localStorage. Nothing is sent to or stored on our servers. If you clear your browser data, your entries and history will be reset.
Can I share my wheel with others?
Currently, Roulety does not have a built-in sharing feature. However, you can use the fullscreen mode during presentations or screen shares. You can also take a screenshot of your wheel to share the setup with others.
What browsers are supported?
Roulety works in all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. We recommend using the latest version of your browser for the best experience. Internet Explorer is not supported.
Can I use Roulety for giveaways or contests?
Absolutely. Many content creators and event organizers use Roulety for giveaways, raffles, and prize drawings. The cryptographic randomness ensures that the selection is fair and unbiased. For transparency, you can share your screen while spinning so participants can watch the result in real time.
Can I use Roulety in the classroom?
Yes, Roulety is popular with teachers and educators. Common classroom uses include randomly calling on students, forming groups, assigning presentation order, and making lesson activities more engaging. The fullscreen mode is great for projecting the wheel on a classroom screen.
What are templates?
Templates are pre-configured wheel setups for common use cases. Instead of manually typing entries, you can select a template like "Yes / No / Maybe", "Numbers 1-10", or "Days of the Week" and the wheel will be instantly populated. You can then customize the entries further if needed.
Why did the wheel land on the same option twice in a row?
Because the wheel uses true random selection, every spin is independent. Just like flipping a fair coin can produce heads twice in a row, the wheel can land on the same segment consecutively. This is a sign that the randomness is working correctly, not a bug.
Can I remove the winning entry after each spin?
Yes. In the Tools tab, you can enable "Remove Winner" mode. When this is active, the winning entry is automatically removed from the wheel after each spin. This is useful for elimination-style rounds, such as picking names from a hat without replacement.
Does Roulety use cookies?
Roulety itself does not set cookies for its core functionality. However, we use Google Analytics for basic usage statistics and Google AdSense for advertising, both of which may set cookies. For more details, please see our Privacy Policy.
I found a bug or have a feature request. How can I report it?
We appreciate your feedback. You can report bugs or suggest features through our GitHub repository. We actively review all submissions and work to improve Roulety based on user input.
